Friends of Belle Isle State Park is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) exempt, organization that supports the recreational and educational opportunities at Belle Isle State Park in Lancaster, Virginia. The Friends were formed and incorporated in 2001. We operate pretty informally but have the usual President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer – who comprise the Board of Directors – and several committees. Our primary yearly activity is the guiding sponsorship of Music by the River. It’s a fun event for the hundreds of visitors at each concert – see more on our Music by the River page. Our other events have varied from year-to-year but include a 5K run/walk, the Fall Festival, and the new Virginia Writers Series. The Friends support groups working at the park, such as the Youth Conservation Corps and students involved in Alternate Spring Break. We also help with park maintenance projects.
